What is FOLLOWERSHIP of JESUS CHRIST?
We have been told our entire lives that we should be leaders, that we need more leaders, leaders, leaders. But the truth is that the greatest way to create a movement is to be a follower and to show others how to follow. Following is the most underrated form of leadership in existence.
Why must we insist it be called leadership anyway? Can we not be satisfied with the portion the Lord gives us? Is it not enough to be followers of Christ?
We have our Leader, our first dancing guy – Jesus, Lord of the Dance. In the midst of his way, truth, and life dance, he waves us in: ‘Come dance with me!’
The question, of course, is whether we’re willing to follow.
Leonard Sweet, I AM A FOLLOWER: THE WAY, TRUTH, AND LIFE OF FOLLOWING JESUS
At the core of FOLLOWERSHIP is a genuine and living relationship with Jesus Christ.
He is Lord and we are not.
He is the Savior of all creations and we are not.
Out of this relationship, we have signed on to:
MOVE OUT of our comfort zone … Jesus descended from His heavenly throne, He gave Himself up
MOVE IN to our culture … Jesus incarnated into our world as the son of a carpenter
MOVE ALONGSIDE someone … Jesus walked with Peter, John, James and other disciples
MOVE FROM a lifestyle that is self serving … Jesus lived a life that brought in the Kingdom of God
At Mosaic Baptist, we gather to encourage and discipline one another on the adventure of followership of Jesus Christ.
“When the Bible speaks of following Jesus, it is proclaiming a discipleship which will liberate mankind from all manmade dogmas, from every burden and oppression, from every anxiety and torture which afflicts the conscience.”
Dietrich Bonhoeffer
